Meet the Brandywine School Board


{Olivia Johnson-Harris} Olivia Johnson-Harris, Board President

Children and education reflect a majority of Olivia's passions. For the past 20 years, Olivia has been employed at a local preschool and childcare facility where she is a preschool teacher and an assistant to the Director.  Olivia has also been active in the Brandywine School District as a PTA President at Lancashire Elementary School and Concord High School, a chair person for other school committees and events, as well as mentoring school aged children.  Among her various awards and accomplishments, Olivia most values her family life with her husband, Greg, and raising their two children, both graduates of Concord High School.  Olivia is currently completing her second degree, which will be in Early Childhood Education.  Represents Voting District E.  Term expires:  June 2015.

{Trish Hearn} Patricia Hearn, Vice President

Patricia Hearn (Trish) and her husband have three children who graduated from Brandywine schools. In addition to 20 years of public service, Trish has volunteered on boards and committees advising Delaware organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, the MS Society and the Delaware Community Foundation. Her volunteerism has been hands-on as well, from organizing park cleanups, to mentoring elementary school children to supporting youth sports through the schools and community. Trish earned a BA from Hofstra University, and is employed with the Family Court of Delaware.  Represents Voting District D.  Term expires:  June 2012.

{Mr. Joe Brumskill} Joseph Brumskill
 
Mr. Brumskill joined the Brandywine Board of Education with a history of civic and educational community service.  He currently serves on the Cab Calloway School of the Arts (CCSA) Advisory Board and is a member of the Harlan Park Civic Association.  Joe was a member of the Brandywine School District's successful 2002 Referendum Committee and has been active as a member of the District's Teacher Recruitment Team.  With a long-standing interest and concern for a positive learning experience for all children, Joe has chaired the Student's Advocates for Education (SAFE) and was a volunteer presenter in the National Council for Community Justice (NCCJ) Green Circle Program, conducted in schools throughout the State.  Under the former Wilmington School District, Joe served as President of the Harlan Elementary School Home and School Association and as President of the Wilmington Home and School Community Council.  He was also a member of the 1978 Governor's School (Desegregation) Committee.  Joe attended Temple University and the Philadelphia College of Art and his career included serving as the Executive Director of the Christina Cultural Arts Center; Acting Director/Program Coordinator for the Delaware State Arts Council; and Public Relations Manager/Fashion Coordinator for John Wanamaker Wilmington and Philadelphia.  Joe has two grandchildren who are receiving their education primarily in the Department of Defense schools, throughout the U.S. and overseas.  Represents Voting District A.  Term expires:  June 2013.

{Cheryl Siskin}  Cheryl Siskin
 
Cheryl Siskin has extensive experience working with community groups and public agencies. The mother of three children in our schools, she holds a Bachelors degree in Political Science and a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning from George Washington University, as well as a J.D. from Temple University. Cheryl is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and worked as a planner in Fairfax County, Virginia, prior to attending law school. Cheryl has practiced law in Delaware for more than 13 years.    Represents Voting District G. Term expires: June 2014.

{Ralph Ackerman}  Ralph Ackerman
 
Ralph Ackerman has been a Delaware resident since 1976, and has lived primarily in Claymont. Ralph has four daughters, two of who are graduates of the school district and two of whom are students at Brandywine High.

Ralph served previously on the Brandywine Board of Education, from 1993 to 2003. While on the board, he served as Vice President one year and President for 5 years. He served as spokesperson for Coalition for Better Education In Brandywine, was a member of the Strategic Planning committee in 1992, was a Citizens Advisory Committee representative for Maple Lane Elementary, and recently chaired the Claymont Community Coalition education committee.

Ralph received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Delaware and completed the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter designation from the American Institute in 1991. He works for Chase as an Analyst.  He is active in the Brandywine Valley Chapter of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters, serving as the President-Elect and Education Chairperson.   Represents Voting District C. Term expires:  June 2013

  {Audrey Noble}
Audrey Noble, Ph.D.
 
Dr. Audrey Noble was appointed to the Board in January 2011 to fill the seat vacated by outgoing Board President Debra Heffernan. 

 

Dr. Noble has a long and distinguished career in educational policy and leadership.  Currently, she is the Director of the Bachelor’s in Public Policy program at the University of Delaware’s School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy, where she is responsible for the development of curriculum, assessments, and instructional oversight.  She also serves as Faculty Affiliate for the Delaware Academy for School Leadership and teaches graduate level classes in the School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy.  Dr. Noble has worked at the University of Delaware since 1994.  Represents Voting District B.  Term expires: June 2015.

{John Skrobot}
 
John Skrobot
 
Mr. Skrobot is a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and a retired pipefitter and adult night school instructor for the New Castle County Vo-Tech School District.  His grown children attended BSD schools, and he and his wife, Joyce, now have a grandchild in the District.  He has volunteered in the District in various capacities since 1979 and has served as Co-Chair of the District's Renovations Oversight Committee since 2002.  Mr. Skrobot also served as Co-Chair of the District's Capital Referendum in 2005. Represents Voting District F.  Term expires: June 2016.
