The students filed into the gym and saw what looked like yesterday's recycling on the stage. Instead, the items were the raw materials for a fun STEM activity that had students work together in small groups to construct houses that could withstand the Big Bad Wolf. Each group was able to select 7 items with which to build their house, and then they got right to work. Using the engineering design process of research, brainstorming solutions, building a prototype, and testing and refining their models, the students came up with creative solutions for their houses. After about 20 minutes, the Big Bad Wolf (aka Mr. Burks with a hair dryer) came around and tried to blow their houses down.
