On February 22, 2016, the BSD School Board and Administration presented an honorary diploma from P.S. duPont High School to Mr. Stanley P. Lawruk, a former P.S. student who left school to help support his family and then enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. When he returned to Wilmington after the war, Mr. Lawruk went back to his job at Tasty Baking Company and did not finish his formal education. In presenting Mr. Lawruk with his diploma, Superintendent Holodick said, "It is indeed our great honor to present an honorary diploma to Mr. Stanley P. Lawruk, whose true education took place not only in the classrooms at P.S. but also in his 35 years in the workplace, in his family life, and of course in his service to his country." He received numerous medals and honors, including the Distiguished Flying Cross, the Prisoner of War Medal, the French Legion of Honor, an Air Medal, and many more. Congratulations, Mr. Lawruk, and our sincere thanks to you for your distinguished service to our country.
