WMPH Station Management
Paul Wishengrad came to teaching radio broadcasting and journalism at Mount Pleasant High School way back in 2011, after a 25-year career in commercial broadcasting in Philly and Wilmington. He has been a drive-time host, music director, mentor, production director, and assistant program director and brings decades of experience in marketing, ad campaign design, copywriting, audio editing, voiceover work, interviewing, music direction, and station programming. He has also cleaned up messes and sprayed wasp spray into the feed cone of a great big satellite dish on a black tar roof. So he's ready to manage WMPH, and teach four levels of Radio Journalism, and direct WMPH Radio Summer Camp every July.
Sophia Schmidt is the Youth Media Producer for Delaware Public Media, and brings her career experience at NPR Weekend Edition to her dual job of journalist and mentor with radio students here at WMPH. Sophia advises student journalists at various phases in the curriculum pathway, on skills like copy writing and editing, audio gathering and editing, distilling, discernment and other editorial and creative decision-making. Because of her guidance, students have the chops to succeed in journalism programs in colleges and universities, intern at local news-talk stations, and produce features which win state and national awards and air on public radio affiliates around the world.
The WMPH Advisory Board is a group of listeners, stakeholders, BSD officials and alumni of Mount and WMPH who care about the district's radio station, what it does, and the direction it's going in. The WMPH Advisory Board holds public meetings three times annually, usually the first Wednesday of March, July and November at 6pm at WMPH studios. All are welcome.
