Keeping Schools Clean & Safe
-
BSD is committed to providing a safe learning environment for students and staff. Here are some highlights from our Returning to Schools Guidance regarding our efforts to mitigate the spread of the virus.
VENTILATION
We are increasing the percentage of outside air by using our building automated control systems and will meet or exceed the recommended six full air exchanges per hour in each BSD building. All HVAC filters are replaced on a consistent basis that exceeds recommended timelines. HVAC systems will run in off hours to continue the fresh air exchanges. Finally, each nurse's office, wellness center, and main office will be equipped with an air purification system.
CLEANING AND SANITIZING
High touch-point surfaces such as door handles, railings, bathrooms, and counters will be cleaned and disinfected every 15 minutes to two hours per the State's guidance. BSD uses a product listed on EPA's List N of approved disinfectants. All student desks will be disinfected prior to the start of the day, at mid-day, after any rotations between classes, during lunch and recess when students are not in the room, and after students leave for the day. The District has purchased cordless electrostatic disinfecting sprayers that emit a fine mist that better adheres and reaches around objects.
PHYSICAL DISTANCING
All individuals on BSD property must maintain proper social distancing, defined as six feet or more of separation. Markings will be used to remind students and staff of the spacing in commonly used areas in the building, including hallways, the cafeteria, offices, and other gathering points. In addition, hallways are marked with directional arrows to limit traffic. Classroom furniture is limited to essential items, and rooms are organized with all desks or tables facing the same direction. When weather permits, outdoor spaces will be used for recess, physical education, and other learning opportunities.
