Summer Fine Arts Camps

    BSD is proud to offer eight different week-long summer visual and performing arts experiences.  Please use the links to select the experiences your student is interested in for their appropriate grade level. Each experience is a five-day camp with different options throughout July. Summer Music Experiences run for three weeks in July, so students can choose one, two, or three different art and music experiencesEach week's experience costs $100.

    WEEK ONE: JULY 11-15 (9 a.m. - 3 p.m. daily)

    CERAMICS + SCULPTURE WORKSHOP - NOTE: This camp is full! Any additional registrations will be added to our waitlist. 

    Grade Levels: Rising 4, 5, 6, 7

    In this class, students will learn how to create three-dimensional art, from fine art sculptures to functional ceramics! Students will spend half of each day exploring the world of sculpture. We will create sculptures using recycled materials, plaster, metal, wood, and more! Students will spend the other half of each day working with real clay and making pottery! Students will acquire basic skills for sculpting and manipulating clay with pinch, coiling, and slab techniques. Students will also learn about the kiln and will get to load and unload the pieces they put inside for firing! Finally, students will glaze all their work with a beautiful selection of studio colors and will get to take pottery home that they can actually use! Join us for this week-long course of 3D adventures!

    ELEMENTARY DINNER THEATER CAMP - NOTE: This camp is full! Any additional registrations will be added to our waitlist. 

    Grade Levels: Rising 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 

    During this camp, students will learn a variety of performance-based activities, including singing, instrument playing, and basic choreography. Students will also incorporate technology, marketing, staging, repertoire selection, script/narration writing, program design, music theory, and music history as the children design a student-centered mini-musical. On the last day of camp (July 15), families will be invited to view the original show in a Dinner Theater setting.

    MUSIC & ACADEMICS - Week 1

    Grade Levels: Rising 3, 4, 5

    Through fun academics (sometimes traditional games with a twist), students will engage in activities that teach &/or reinforce music literacy & comprehensive academic skills.

    WEEK TWO: JULY 18-22 (9 a.m. - 3 p.m. daily)

    SILK FABRIC PAINTING

    Grade Levels: Rising  5, 6, 7, 8

    Originating from China, silk painting is an art form with over 2000 years of history that involves applying color pigments to silk cloth using various methods and techniques. Explore the world of silk painting, scarves, pillows, and wall-hangings. Students will use gutta and wax as a resist for sketching the outlines of designs on silk cloth to produce a unique scarf or pillow all their own.

    MUSIC & ACADEMICS - Week 2

    WEEK THREE: JULY 25-29 (9 a.m. - 3 p.m. daily)

    MUSICAL THEATER CAMP

    Grade Levels: Rising  4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11

    Students will have the chance to explore all aspects of musical theatre through the learning/performance of short scenes from musical theatre works. Older students will have an opportunity to experience the directing aspect of theatre as well as the performance side. Campers will have the chance to perform their works at the end of the week. Bring your dancing shoes and best singing voice, and be ready to shine in the spotlight at Summer Musical Theatre Camp!

    SUMMER ORCHESTRA ACADEMY for String and Band Students  

    Grade Levels: Rising 8, 9, 10, 11, 12

    Spend an exciting week playing in a summer orchestra! Spend a fun week learning a piece of orchestral music that will be performed in a symphony concert on the final day.

    MUSIC & ACADEMICS - Week 3
