US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan visited Mount Pleasant High School today, one of only two schools to receive a visit on his trip to Delaware. The students and staff absolutely excelled! Secretary Duncan, Governor Markell, and DE Secretary of Education Murphy visited a classroom to see blended learning in action, met with college-bound students in the library during a very candid student roundtable discussion, and participated in a town hall meeting in the new STEM Lab that was moderated by Superintendent Holodick. Secretary Duncan even posed for a few selfies with students after the town hall before doing media interviews. Students were involved from start to finish. JROTC members escorted guests through the building, culinary arts students served refreshments, students asked thoughtful questions during the roundtable and town hall, audio engineering students provided the sound, a senior served as moderator of the student roundtable, student reporters covered the event for WMPH and Crossroads and had full press access, and STEM students showed off their projects. Brandywine HS and Concord HS STEM teachers brought a few of their students to participate as well. All in all a great day for Mount and the entire district!
