Registering for Kindergarten

Greetings Families!

Thank you for your interest in the Brandywine School District’s Early Admission to Kindergarten Process.

We understand that some children may demonstrate advanced readiness for kindergarten before reaching the age requirement of 5 years old. Our Early Admission to Kindergarten process allows families to explore this option and determine if it is the best fit for their child.
Early admission is designed for children who exhibit advanced learning abilities, social maturity, and readiness for a structured kindergarten environment. To be considered, children must turn five (5) between September 1st and October 31st.

The process includes the following steps:
  1. Parent will make initial contact with Brandi Monroe via phone or email.
  2. Parent will be contacted according to scheduled Early Admission playgroup sessions.
  3. The child will participate in a playgroup led by current and retired Kindergarten teachers.
  4. Parent will be contacted via phone and/or email regarding the results of the Early Admission playgroup session.
Our goal is to ensure every child is set up for a successful start to their educational journey as we strive to work closely with families to make informed decisions based on your child’s needs and abilities.

For questions or more information, please contact Brandi Monroe at brandi.monroe@bsd.k12.de.us or (302) 793-5011.

We look forward to supporting you through this process and answering any questions you may have!

Is your child turning 5 before August 31?  If so, it's time to register for kindergarten! Kindergarten families will follow the same enrollment process as all other families, but here is a bit more information to help you.

The Brandywine School District offers full-day kindergarten at no cost at all elementary schools in the District. The kindergarten schedule follows the same schedule as elementary school, which is 8:35 a.m. to 3:35 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Transportation is provided for eligible students, and students may eat breakfast and lunch at school.  Families may apply for free/reduced lunch.

Kindergarten pre-registration begins in January and continues through the first day of school. If you are applying for the School Choice Program, you must register in your feeder pattern school first.

All kindergarten students must have a physical by a licensed healthcare provider prior to beginning school, per Delaware State law.  The physical must be performed within 24 months of starting kindergarten.
