Ms. Tamara Grimes-Stewart

Ms. Stewart began her teaching career in 1995 as a middle school special education teacher in the Christina School District. Ms. Stewart taught social studies, science, employability skills, and ELA. She was recognized as the building Teacher of the Year and served as the Team Leader for many years. While in Christina, Ms. Stewart wrote a grant for her students to manage a café. The students learned about various careers and operated a cafe that served staff for several years. Ms. Stewart served on many district-level committees during her tenure in Christina. After 9 years in the classroom, Ms. Stewart transitioned as a Resident Teacher at the Delaware Department of Education.  In this role, she worked with various school districts, buildings, and staff members throughout the State of Delaware. She focused on special education, math, and PBS (Positive Behavior Support). After 2 years in that role, Ms. Stewart was hired as an Educational Diagnostician in the Appoquininmink School District overseeing special education meetings in 2 schools. She also worked as an Administrative Intern and Special Education Coordinator before being hired in the Brandywine School District as an Assistant Principal at Claymont Elementary. Ms. Stewart is now the proud principal of Claymont Elementary. She oversees multiple programs within the school, including Special Programs, 4th & 5th Grade Gifted & Talented, and the Spanish Immersion Program.  This year we will continue to shine a spotlight on “Cougar Kindness” and ways to show we care about our fellow students, families, and staff.
