• A little about our Principal Mrs. Kimberly Fawks

    On the professional side…

I have been in education for twenty-seven years.  My journey began in 1993 as a middle school teacher in Philadelphia, PA.  After serving students for three years in Pennsylvania, I joined the Brandywine School District as a sixth grade teacher at P.S. duPont Elementary School, and my daughter began in Brandywine as a kindergarten student at Maple Lane Elementary School. During my last year teaching sixth grade, I served as the Teacher-of-the Year for both P.S. duPont and the Brandywine School District.

Following ten years of teaching at P.S., I moved from the classroom to administration, serving as the Dean of Students at Claymont Elementary School until the end of the 2009 school year. With the grade reconfiguration of Brandywine schools, I moved to Harlan Elementary where I served as the Dean of Students and then Assistant Principal until 2012 when I returned to Claymont Elementary School as the Assistant Principal. In 2015, I joined the staff of Mount Pleasant Elementary where I served students and their families as Assistant Principal. This year, I am honored and very excited to begin my new leadership role serving the students, families and staff of Maple Lane Elementary School as Principal.

I attended Millersville University in Pennsylvania, and in1989 I earned my Bachelor of Science in Education Degree.  In January 2005, I graduated from Wilmington University with a Masters in Educational Leadership. Upon graduation, I was awarded Wilmington University’s Master of Education Award.

    On the personal side…

My family is a very proud Brandywine School District family. Both of my children attended BSD schools from kindergarten through their graduation from Concord High School 2009 (daughter) and 2014 (son). My husband has been teaching for seventeen years in Brandywine and currently works at P.S. duPont where he teaches students Digital Media in the STEM program.

When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family, especially my three grandchildren, reading, watching movies, solving logic puzzles, pretending I’m a yoga expert, and baking - ok, I really mean eating baked goods. My favorite vacation is a trip to Disney World in Florida to visit a few of my favorite friends, Mickey, Minnie, and Grumpy! I love to laugh and am happy when I can make someone else smile or laugh.
