Art at Claymont Elementary!
Painting, drawing, clay and more media than you could ever imagine are part of the Claymont art experience! Mrs. Susanna Dooley, 2018-19 DELAWARE ELEMENTARY ART EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR, and Ms. Rachel Glickman bring out the gifts of visual arts in each and every Claymont Cougar. There are many creative and fun projects planned for the year including (but not limited to!) an exploration of famous artists, art from around the world, fiber art, and recycled art just to name a few. Speaking of recycled art, the 5th graders are about to begin creating arcade games out of recyclable materials. This is part of a worldwide initiative called the “Global Cardboard Challenge” and incorporates the STEAM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Art-Math) philosophy. This is the fourth year we are doing the cardboard challenge—it has become an annual event for the 5th grade art students at Claymont. If you have any recyclable materials that you could donate to the art room, it would be much appreciated. Items including cardboard boxes, tooth brushes, shoe boxes, empty paper towel or wrapping paper rolls, plastic cups, and plastic grocery bags are needed. Our Claymont students prouldy display their talents each year at the Young Brandywine Artist Exhibition at the Blue Bell Barn, Delaware Art Musuem, and the Delaware Contemporary.
Please feel free to contact Mrs. Dooley or Ms. Glickman if you have a question or concern.
