Bush Early Education Center serves three and four year-old students in half day programs.  Using the Big Day for PreK curriculum, we provide opportunities for all students to learn through daily involvement in a variety of hands-on, participatory activities.  The five principles of Big Day for PreK are social-emotional development, language development, integrated learning, responsive instruction, and partnership with families.

Children are taught by highly qualified specialists who use a developmentally appropriate curriculum to accommodate the differences in students' skills and experiences.  Our classrooms integrate children with special needs with those not requiring special services, with all children benefiting from the many unique opportunities this offers. The curriculum focuses on building each child's development in sound/symbol recognition, listening, speaking, responding, and pre-writing. Hands-on activities in math, science, and social studies encourage cooperation, problem-solving, and awareness of the world. Small class sizes and low teacher/child ratios provide individualized attention. Speech and language therapists provide support for special needs students in collaboration with classroom teachers.

ECAP is a state-funded preschool program with FREE tuition for income-eligible families. Children must be four years old by August 31 and live in the Brandywine School District to be eligible for the program.

The full-day program operates Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Joseph Brumskill Early Childhood Assistance Program, located at 701 W. 34th Street in Wilmington.  Breakfast and lunch are served daily.

ECAP provides students with a low teacher to student ratio. There are a maximum of eighteen students per classroom with both a teacher and paraprofessional.  Developmental, physical, and dental evaluations are offered. Individualized instruction is offered for students with special needs in addition to speech, occupational, and physical therapy.  Social work services are also available for all families.

The Joseph Brumskill Early Childhood Assistance Program (ECAP) is located in the beautiful P.S. duPont Middle School building at 701 W. 34th Street in Wilmington. Our entrance is on Monroe Street, on the side of the building near the parking lot and pool.  Street parking is available.

In 2018, we were proudly renamed in honor of longtime School Board member, volunteer, neighbor, advocate, and friend Joe Brumskill.  Our sign was designed and crafted by two Brandywine High School engineering students.
