Odyssey of the Mind
The students of Mount Pleasant Elementary School embrace the Odyssey of the Mind program. In 2012-13, our school sent thirteen teams to compete in the regional tournament –more than any other school in the state. Students enjoyed the camaraderie of their teammates as they worked together to solve challenging tasks.
As many educators have noted, The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) initiative in education is closely linked to creative problem solving. Students who participate in the Odyssey of the Mind creative problem solving program learn to think critically and creatively. Teams collaborate to identify and analyze a problem, and then brainstorm innovative ways to solve it. As teachers we value improved STEM programs to guide students who are capable of new solutions and better decisions. Beyond teaching science and math content, we look for opportunities to provide our students with experiences centered on design, innovation, engineering, and technology in order to increase creativity, inventiveness, ingenuity, and imagination capabilities. The Odyssey of the Mind experience fosters these characteristics.
We look forward to the continued participation of last year’s team members, and welcome the diverse and unique talents of all interested students.
