AVID’s mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.
AVID is a national program designed to support students and help them attend college to reach their full potential. It also serves to level the playing field for students striving to become the first in their families to attend college or university.
The AVID program serves its students by:
Teaching and reinforcing study and organization skills
Encouraging students to take harder and more challenging classes
Providing skills necessary to succeed in a college [public speaking, interaction with professors, etc.]
Ultimately preparing them for success at four-year colleges
AVID is not a remedial education program. It is a program designed to provide whatever support may be lacking for students with academic potential, but who may not be working to the best of their abilities.
