Maple Lane is a balanced calendar school. Being a balanced calendar school means that our breaks are distributed a little more evenly, in an attempt to reduce summer learning loss. Our students attend school for 180 days, just like all the other students in our state, but we have a shorter summer break. Our school year begins earlier than most, usually around the first week of August, and we have smaller breaks throughout the year. During the additional mid-year breaks our students have the option of attending Intersessions.
Intersessions are voluntary at Maple Lane. Parents have the option of sending their child to school or using the time for vacations or just to unwind. For the students who do attend, we offer a variety of classes. Some of our past classes have included karate, cooking, dance, money sense, earth art, and dinosaurs. Students in need can also get extra support in reading and math during intersession. Advanced registration is required for intersession, so that we can be better prepared. Intersession registration forms are sent home several weeks prior to each intersession.
