From kindergarten through graduation, Brandywine School District Science students use all their senses to investigate the natural world. Students study the four areas of physical science, life science, earth/space science, and engineering. Lessons are based on the State’s Next Generation Science Standards. Our teachers challenge all students at every grade level to create a deep understanding of the world, the universe, and living things.
Brandywine School District prepares students to be well-informed critical thinkers so that they will be ready for post-secondary experiences in college and/or career.
At the Elementary level, kids receive an introduction to all elements of science from genetics to engineering. Science teachers take students on field trips to experience science in action and practice the skills they have learned.
In Middle School students start to apply what they have learned in a real-world setting through various role-playing scenarios. They might see what it’s like to be a doctor diagnosing patients, an engineer designing a new location for a restaurant, a paleontologist on a dig site or as a scientist in modifying an exhibit in an aquarium to save the fish.
High School students have a multitude of opportunities to various science courses. Many of these include college-level and honors-level courses. We currently also offer AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics 1 and AP Physics 2. Check our local high schools’ courses for even more. In each of our courses, students are expected to conduct their own experiments and laboratory reports.
