IB at Mount Pleasant High School

The IB Diploma Programme is considered the most challenging course of study available to high school students in the world.  It offers students a comprehensive liberal arts education focusing on developing international understanding, and high academic achievement.

Students study individual curriculum areas and transdisciplinary areas across a broad range of subjects. Special emphasis is placed on learning a second language.  Assessment is a key component of the Diploma Programme. Students submit work to their classroom teachers and outside IB examiners from schools and universities around the world. Work is scored on common standards moderated by the IB organization so that there is consistency around the world.

Two IB tracks are offered at Mount Pleasant. The Middle Years Programme is a continuation of IB at Talley Middle School and is offered to 9th and 10th grade students. In 11th grade, students enter the Diploma Programme. This curriculum is made up of six subject groups. They include core IB classes, The Theory of Knowledge, Creativity, Activity, Service, and the Extended Essay.  Through these core courses, students reflect on the nature of knowledge, complete independent research, and undertake a project that often involves community service. Students who successfully complete all of the DP coursework graduate with an IB diploma.
