IB at Talley Middle School
Life in the 21st century places many changing demands on students as they go through adolescence. They are at a crucial period of personal, social, physical, and intellectual development. Uncertainty and questioning are hallmarks of this period in life. The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme is designed to help kids build a positive attitude about learning and find a sense of belonging in the ever-changing and interrelated world around them.
At Talley Middle School the IB Middle Years Programme provides a challenging curriculum that encourages students to understand how traditional subjects are connected to the real world. Students become critical and reflective thinkers. This program is offered to 6th - 8th graders and continued at Mount Pleasant at the 9th and 10th grade level.
Students take IB courses in eight IB subject groups. They also complete a community service and a personal project. At the end of the Middle Years Programme, students complete a series of examinations to earn their certificate. Many go on to complete the Diploma Programme at Mount Pleasant High School.
