Elementary Enrollment
Enrollment in the elementary Spanish Immersion Program typically begins in kindergarten or 1st grade. In some cases, students may enter the program at other grade levels, depending on their educational background and language experience.
Families interested in enrolling their child in an immersion program must follow the district’s enrollment timeline and procedures.
- If your feeder school offers immersion: Register at your feeder school and communicate your interest in the Spanish Immersion program.
- If your feeder school does not offer immersion: A school choice application must be completed and submitted during the choice open enrollment window for kindergarten. Those interested in entering the Spanish Immersion program beyond 1st grade should contact the Multilingual Services department at MultilingualServices@bsd.k12.de.us to discuss eligibility.
Acceptance is determined based on:
- Availability of space at the requested immersion school
- Student’s grade level and prior language experience (for Grades 2 and above)

High School Immersion
Current 8th Grade Talley Middle School Immersion Students:
Beginning the 2026-27 school year, Brandywine, Concord, and Mount Pleasant High School will offer Spanish immersion continuation, which will consist of AP Spanish and the University of Delaware (UD) Bridge Dual Enrollment College classes at each high school. This program provides advanced Spanish coursework for immersion students and offers opportunities to earn college credit.
All 8th grade Immersion students who meet language proficiency criteria may begin by taking AP Spanish in 9th grade, followed by UD credit-bearing courses in subsequent years.
Immersion students who live within BSD will continue at their feeder high school. They may apply to continue at a non-feeder BSD high school by submitting an online School Choice Application during the open enrollment window for the high school(s) they wish to attend.
Immersion students who live outside of BSD must submit an online School Choice Application during the open enrollment window for the high school(s) they wish to attend for Spanish Immersion Continuation. We encourage families to list multiple BSD high schools, in order of preference.
Students Not Enrolled at Talley Middle School:
All 8th grade Immersion students transferring from other (non-Brandywine) immersion programs may continue immersion coursework if they meet language proficiency criteria. Eligible students may enroll in AP Spanish and continue with UD courses based on entry requirements. However, an online School Choice Application must be completed during the open enrollment window for the high school they wish to attend.
