Enrolling in Spanish Immersion

Enrollment in an immersion program typically begins at designated entry points—most commonly in Kindergarten or 1st grade—when students are introduced to Spanish through full or partial language immersion.

Families interested in enrolling their children in an immersion program must follow the district's enrollment timeline and procedures, which includes a school choice or lottery process due to high demand and limited space.

Placement is determined based on several factors:
  • Availability of space at the requested immersion site
  • Student’s grade level and prior language experience (for upper-grade entries)
  • Lottery or priority system, which may favor siblings of current students, students from within the school boundary, or students who are part of underrepresented language backgrounds to maintain program diversity
Secondary Enrollment
For middle and high school, course selection begins as early as February. Students can select World Language courses as follows:
  • Middle school: student selection through core team, starting in February
  • High school: chosen via school course enrollment forms in February–May
Choice Process:
Families must complete a school choice application during the designated window starting each November 1. If more applicants apply than there are spots available, a lottery is conducted. Placement notifications are sent out according to district policy, and families must confirm acceptance by a set deadline to secure their spot.

Ongoing enrollment is also supported for students transferring from other immersion programs, pending space availability and language proficiency. Visit the choice information page for choice related information at https://www.brandywineschools.org/families/school-choice

*Based on projected enrollment we do not have available Choice seats for kindergarten. However, if enrollment changes and seats become available we will utilize the Choice Wait-list to offer participation in the Immersion Program. Any family outside of the school feeder pattern who is interested in the Immersion Program must complete a Choice Application.
