Parents are essential partners in a child’s special education team. The Parent Council for Families of Students with Disabilities is a districtwide advisory group made up of parents and guardians of students with disabilities enrolled in the Brandywine School District. The council serves as a collaborative forum for families and the Department of Special Education to:
-
Discuss current issues in special education,
-
Identify challenges and potential solutions, and
-
Partner on initiatives that improve outcomes for students with disabilities.
In addition to advising district efforts, council members help foster connections among families and support opportunities for engagement and peer support. The council is inclusive of families of students with all types of disabilities and welcomes broad participation.
