Parents are essential partners in a child’s special education team. Brandywine School District has a Parent Council for Parents of Students with Disabilities and continues to look for ways for parents and families to get involved.
The Parent Council for Parents of Students with Disabilities is a group of two nominated parents from each school to represent parents of students with disabilities. These parents meet with representatives from the Educational Services Department quarterly to discuss issues in special education, identify possible solutions, and work collaboratively to create plans that will improve the outcomes for students with disabilities. Additionally, council members serve to support other families of students with disabilities and plan opportunities for connection and support. The council is inclusive of parents of students with all disabilities.
