Preschool in BSD
BSD loves our littlest learners! We know that preschool builds a firm foundation for the beginning of a child's education.
Here at BSD, we offer families three programs to choose from. These programs offer our youngest students an opportunity for exciting educational experiences, social learning, and some social services.
We hope you'll join one of these programs and start your child's education right here in BSD.
Charles W. Bush Early Learning Center - Located at Hanby Elementary
Bush Early Learning Center offers half-day programs (am and pm) for both children with special needs and for typical learners. Children can attend from anywhere in the Brandywine School District and must be 3 or 4 years old to attend. Families pay a reduced fee for their child to attend the program for typical learners. The special needs program is funded through state agencies. Click here to learn more about the program and how to register. Child Find is a federally funded program in the State of Delaware that identifies students for special education services. The BSD Child Find team screens, evaluates, and recommends specific services for preschool and school-aged children. If you wish to have your incoming preschooler evaluated, please contact Joan McNamara by email or at 792-3920 x502. You can also click here for additional information about developmental screening.
Joseph Brumskill Early Childhood Assistance Program (ECAP) - Located at PS duPont Middle School
ECAP is a preschool program housed in its own area of the PS duPont building. It offers a quality full-day preschool experience free of charge for families that are income-eligible. Students must be 4 years of age and live anywhere in the BSD school district. Breakfast and lunch are served daily to students, and developmental, physical, and dental evaluations are offered as part of the program. Harlan offers a full-day program similar to ECAP but is available only for students living in the Harlan Elementary feeder pattern. The program is integrated into the Harlan community, and registration is handled the same as for any other Harlan student. There is no requirement for income eligibility to attend PreK at Harlan.
