Talley STEM teacher recognized by USDOE

handler Congratulations to STEM teacher Heather Handler at Talley Middle School, who was recognized by the US Department of Education in the Teacher Appreciation Program. Ms. Handler received this email from USDOE.

Dear Heather Handler,
As part of Teacher Appreciation Week, the US Department of Education asked for nominations of amazing educators across the United States. You were one of the educators nominated as a person who is influencing lives in your classroom and beyond. On behalf of the Department, we want to thank you for your service and commend you for your excellence. While Teacher Appreciation Week may be over, our nation’s appreciation towards teachers should not be confined to one week and we want to take this time to say thank you. In your anonymous nomination, we asked why you are an excellent educator and received this response:

Heather Handler has developed an engaging and cutting edge learning experience for her students. She has navigated the obstructive bureaucracy that is K-12 education. Despite the challenges before her, Heather continuously seeks out training, funding and community input to establish her program as a model for other middle school STEM initiatives. Heather has shared her vision with her high school counter parts, and has helped in building out a unified district curricula. She has also planned and facilitated ground breaking STEM enrichment camps that have introduced middle school students to micro controllers, programming, and hands on real world experiences from robotics labs to helicopter rides and drone construction. Cheers to Heather Handler for putting in the time to push our team forward.
