Important message from Superintendent Holodick

Dear BSD Community,

As you may know, our District, and in particular Concord, suffered two tragic losses over the past few months. We have been providing support to Concord students, families, and staff in several ways in conjunction with our District Crisis Team as well as outside agencies specializing in grief and trauma.

While our immediate focus has been on Concord, we know that these losses have ripple effects that extend to several other schools and many BSD families. We also know that awareness and prevention education must be accelerated throughout the District – not just about youth suicide, but also about mental health, school safety, addiction, bullying, and other important issues that contribute greatly to school climate and student success and wellness. To that end, we are coordinating with the Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) to offer training for staff, students, and families starting this summer and extending into the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year. I urge you to save this date: Thursday, September 6. On that day, we will offer a full day and evening of trainings, workshops, and conversations focused on mental health issues in conjunction with our community partners.

In the meantime, we offer the resources available on the SHP website as a starting point for conversations your family may wish to have. These resources and programs will be the basis for our ongoing support and training throughout BSD.

As always, I am open to your feedback and very appreciative of your support.
