Tania Milionis Named BSD Behavioral Health Professional of the Year

Tania Milionis BHPOY

Talley Middle School Counselor, Tania Milionis, has been named the 2024 Brandywine School District Behavioral Health Professional of the Year!  The Delaware State Behavioral Health Professional of the Year (BHPY) program is administered by the Delaware Department of Education (DDOE). The program recognizes outstanding service by school employees who are health care practitioners or human service providers who offer services for the purpose of improving an individual’s mental health.

From those nominated at a local level, one behavioral health professional of the year moves forward to represent each district or the charter school community in the state program. Each district/charter network honoree receives a $2,000 personal award from the professional’s district or charter school. The state program then chooses one person annually to serve as Delaware’s Behavioral Health Professional of the Year. State honorees receive an additional $3,000 personal award from the department as well as $5,000 to be used for the educational benefit of the state honoree’s students.

In receiving the award, Tania said “I started at Talley as a building substitute in 1999, and it’s been home ever since. I can’t imagine myself anywhere else. I work with some amazing people who make many of the things we do so easy. I’m incredibly thankful, and I’m Proud to be BSD!  Nothing can ever be accomplished without first building a relationship. I believe, with all my heart, that a student will never "care how much you know, until they know how much you care". A school counselor shouldn't have to ever say a word to a student for them to know how much they are cared for, how safe they are, that they are supported, and that they are loved. The relationship between a counselor and a student should always contribute to the student's basic needs. My students will always "remember how I made them feel".
